Encyclopedia of Mormonism, “Seventy”

This entry contains three relevant articles: “Seventy: Overview,” “Seventy: First Council of the Seventy,” and “Seventy: Quorums of Seventy.” The first article describes the office of Seventy and discusses its establishment in the 1830s and its subsequent development. The second article discusses the General Authority office of Seventy before 1975, when its functions and officers were incorporated into the current quorums of the Seventy. The third article describes the organization and duties of members of the Seventy in the Church today. The Encyclopedia of Mormonism contains information about the Church and its history, beliefs, doctrine, and procedures. It is not published by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but most of the sources used for writing the volumes are. The online version is hosted by Brigham Young University.
