The Boy with the Limp

As a student, Iotua Bareeta Tune of Kiribati developed an infection in his hip, which began to spread into the rest of his body, much like the infection Joseph Smith had as a child. “God, my only hope is You,” he prayed as the infection grew more serious. “If You spare my life, I promise to be a missionary. I will spend my whole life serving You.” This was before the Church had come to Kiribati. Though he walked with a bad limp for many years, Tune survived. Shortly after his sickness, the boy with the limp was chosen to attend Liahona High School in Tonga, where he joined the Church and dedicated himself to helping bring it to Kiribati and building it up there.
