Emmeline B. Wells, longtime general president of the Relief Society, was born on February 29, 1828—leap day. On February 29, 1908, the First Presidency “sent her 80 carnations” to honor her 80 years on earth. At the same time, President Anthon H. Lund pointed out, this was only the nineteenth time Sister Wells had ever celebrated her birthday on February 29.
