Breaking the Waves

Converts at an August 1980 baptismal service held at Black Star Beach in Ghana encountered an unusual problem: strong waves kept knocking them and priesthood holders down before the ordinance could be performed. Sister Benedicta Elizabeth Kissi came up with a solution that was both practical and symbolic—for Church members to “form a human chain” around the baptismal area “so as to break the impact of the waves.”
