The Power of Faith

William Willes had heard many stories of the spiritual powers of the Ganges [River] before visiting it himself on Christmas Eve of 1851, while he was serving a mission in India. “Walked from head to feet for the first time in the Hindoos Sacred Ganges Water,” he wrote on that day, “[and] it appears to be exactly the same as any other water. I expect it’s the faith and not the water that does the wonders related of it.”
