James Beswick

In 1854 James crossed the Atlantic on the ship Marshfield, arriving in Utah the same year. Some sources give his birth month as December. His wife and son (Ann Burtonwood Beswick and Joseph Beswick) sailed on the ship Horizon in 1856 and joined the Edward Martin Handcart Company; she died on the trail. Additional research is needed to identify the pioneer company with which James crossed the plains.

The inscription on his gravestone shows his date of birth as 31 December 1801.  FamilySearch shows the date as 31 January 1801.
