The Curtis family had to travel to Utah in 1851 because they had a child born in late July 1850 in Council Bluffs and another child born in Utah in May 1852 which was prior to the arrival of that season's emigration. They could not have come in 1850 or 1852 with those two birth events; they had to come in 1851. The family is also on the 1850 Iowa census which was enumerated in September 1850, confirming that they didn't travel to Utah in 1850.
