George Clayton

Circumstantial evidence from emigration and church records proves Clayton traveled to Utah in 1853. He traveled from England on a ship in 1853 and appears in minutes of the 39th Quorum of Seventies held in Salt Lake (11 Mar. 1854). This proves he had to have traveled in 1853 because he was in Salt Lake months before the arrival of emigrant companies in 1854. A sketch in a biographical volume of the 39th Quorum of Seventies contains enough detail to assume that Clayton supplied the information. It states he arrived in Salt Lake Valley on 16 October 1853. Several companies arrived that day making identification of which company he traveled in difficult. His wife and children joined him in Utah in 1855.
