He was the Company Chaplain. Justin left the company to drive wagon for Joseph Slagle and he took passage in his brother's wagon. Others in the wagon were: John and Mary Price, Ann Jackson, Harriet Painter, Alice Townsend, Henry Garland, Henry Russell, and Caroline Heane who apostatised later and left them at Ft. Kearney. Later in the trip he was hired on to drive an ox team to Salt Lake for Joseph Slagle.
