John Gillies

He sailed with his son, Robert, and his family to America in 1856 on the ship S. Curling. It is presumed that he accompanied them in the Hodgetts company, but the family pulled out of this company at some point. In 1857 the family again tried to get to Utah in the Jesse B. Martin company.  John died en route. In some sources his surname was mistakenly spelled Gillis.
