Elizabeth Haydock

There has been some confusion as to whether her name is "Elizabeth Haydock" or "Betty Haddock." She was christened "Betty Compton" at St. Mary's Prestwich, Lancashire, England. Her marriage record on 3 Jan. 1828 says Betty Compton married William Haddock at St. Mary's. All of her children were christened with the surname Haddock. The 1841 British census shows William and Betty Haddock with their six children. Manchester Branch records show an evolving surname spelling: Heddock, Haydock and Heydock. The 1851 British census shows Betty Haydock. On the manifest of the ship Horizon Betty is Elizabeth Haydock and her daughter is Mary Haydock. Betty's gravestone shows her name as "Elizabeth C. Haydock," and her obituary gives her name as "Elizabeth, wife of John Lowry," and that she was "formerly relict of William Haydock." It appears that members of this family who did not come to Utah kept the "Haddock" spelling.
